Our office uses a system to recognizes that the human body is a highly complex system of interrelated processes – and how it therefore addresses movement patterns as a whole rather than evaluating isolated joint measurements.

Our system is used by professional sports teams, the US Military, fitness professional and evident based healthcare professionals worldwide.

Applied kinesiology refers to an alternative therapy that includes muscle testing as a technique to diagnose and treat a variety of health conditions. According to Dr. Binh Nguyen and the healthcare professionals at Cedar Chiropractic & Sports in Hopkinton, MA, muscle testing (i.e., MMT – Manual Muscle Testing) is a component of applied kinesiology (also known as AK) and is part of a holistic approach to patient care. This technique focuses on the relationship between body structure, functioning, and one’s well-being and is effective when combined with other diagnostic tools.

Exploring Applied Kinesiology

Applied kinesiology refers to an alternative diagnostic technique mainly used by chiropractors and other complementary healthcare practitioners.

This non-invasive type of therapy is contingent on the belief that when an organ malfunctions, it causes specific muscle weakness. Healthcare professionals who practice applied kinesiology follow a defined system that maps how each muscle connects to particular organs and body systems – known as a viscerosomatic relationship. Dr. Nguyen can determine the strength or weakness of certain muscles as they respond to different stimuli which AK denotes can identify imbalances in nutrients and hormones.

Applied kinesiology methodology, which originated in 1964 by a chiropractor, includes the following -

  • Muscle Testing – This refers to the primary methodology of applied kinesiology that manually assesses an individual muscle or muscle group’s power and tension.
  • Diagnosis Based on Testing – Dr. Nguyen then determines and interprets muscle weakness to identify potential nutritional deficiencies, organ dysfunction, or many health problems.
  • Treatment Plan - Based on the testing and diagnosis, a treatment plan may include various complementary techniques like -   Chiropractic Adjustments
    -   Nutritional Supplements.
    -   Other Alternative and Diversified Non-Invasive Therapies.

In a muscle testing or applied kinesiology session, a chiropractor gently applies force to a target muscle, with the client resisting the pressure. If the muscle shows weakness or is simply non-responsive, this could indicate that there is a problem related to its corresponding body system or organ. The chiropractor then takes this data as the basis for the creation of a personalized treatment plan that focuses on the underlying cause of the issue, correcting the problem identified in muscle testing.
